Michael from Teaching Tech made a video guide about the installation. He was so kind to allow me to embed it here! Thumbnail installation starts at 1:49.
Thumbnail generation is based on the fastest STL viewer available. Folders full of STL files are no problem, and most STL thumbnails are generated as fast as those of JPG photos.

For automation and easy deployment, the color settings are loaded from the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Papa’s Best. Create values according to the following table. If a value is missing, its default is assumed.
| Name | Type | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| DefaultBackgroundColor | DWORD | 0x00000000 |
Background color for thumbnails. Format is 0xRRGGBBAA. |
| DefaultObjectColor | DWORD | 0xffffffff |
Object color for files without built-in color information. Format is 0xRRGGBBAA. Transparency is not supported. |
| InitialEyeYawDegrees | DWORD | 28 |
Horizontal rotation of the viewer, in degrees. Positive rotates right. |
| InitialEyePitchDegrees | DWORD | 331 |
Vertical rotation of the viewer, in degrees. Positive rotates down. |
Papa’s Best STL Thumbnails installs for the current user by default. To install for all users on a system, open a command prompt or a PowerShell and run msiexec /i "Papas Best STL Thumbnails.msi" MSIINSTALLPERUSER="".
While seeking a "sentinel dongle clone" is a common reaction to rigid legacy hardware, physical emulation exposes businesses to immense security and legal liabilities. The modern path forward lies in proactive license migration. By working with software vendors to transition from hardware keys to cloud or software-based licensing models, enterprises can protect their workflows, ensure system stability, and eliminate physical single points of failure.
Directly copying the physical chip of a modern Sentinel dongle is, for all practical purposes, impossible. The devices contain proprietary ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) chips that are designed to be non-copyable and include features like self-destruction and data confidentiality.
: Specifically designed to share USB security dongles over a local network or the internet.
What of Sentinel dongle are you currently using?
to share a single physical dongle with remote machines over a network. Official Virtualization Support : If you are moving to a Virtual Machine (VM), use VMWare's USB Passthrough to allow the VM to "see" the physical hardware key. Software-Based Licensing (SL) sentinel dongle clone
The first step in the cloning process involves monitoring the communication between the protected application and the Sentinel runtime environment. Tools called API spies or I/O loggers intercept the unique queries sent by the software and record the corresponding responses returned by the dongle. 2. Dumping the Memory
If the goal is to have backup functionality or remote access, there are legal and safer alternatives:
uses machine fingerprinting. If it detects the license has been copied to a different physical or virtual machine, it automatically disables the software. View topic - Cloning Sentinel Dongle 20 Jul 2025 —
This tool is a high-fidelity encryption dongle emulator. Its core function is to perform protocol-level cloning and behavior simulation of hardware dongles. It is a "soft emulates hard" tool that works by deeply parsing the complete communication handshake between the original dongle and the host software. Mkbus provides a graphical editor that allows users to define the dongle's endpoint topology, descriptor structure, request code mapping table, response data template, and state machine logic in JSON/YAML format. It is designed for applications like software authorization mechanism analysis, legacy system compatibility maintenance, security audits, and legal penetration testing. It can simulate various USB transmission types, including Control Transfer, Bulk Transfer, Interrupt Transfer, and HID class protocol interactions. While seeking a "sentinel dongle clone" is a
Cloning a Sentinel dongle involves two distinct phases: acquiring the data (dumping) and creating the virtualization (emulation). A. Dumping the Dongle
When the software interacts with the Sentinel dongle, decrypted license keys or validation flags temporarily sit in the computer's RAM. Memory dumpers extract these strings directly from system memory to bypass the hardware check entirely. 3. Software Emulation (The Virtual Dongle)
Attempting to clone a modern Sentinel HL is a waste of time. The cryptography is too robust. For legacy Sentinel Pro and SuperPro users: yes, cloning is technically trivial using MultiKey or dongle sniffers. However, the security risk of running unsigned kernel drivers and the legal liability make it a dangerous gamble.
: The software sends a "challenge" (a complex mathematical query), and the emulator provides the exact "response" the original hardware would. Directly copying the physical chip of a modern
Most commercial dongle cloning services and "crack" tools originate from unverified third-party sources. Utilizing custom-made, unsigned kernel-level drivers to emulate a USB device grants those tools deepest-level access to your operating system. This introduces massive risks of malware, ransomware, or corporate espionage. System Instability
keys have "cloning detection". If the licensing system detects a cloned virtual machine or unauthorized backup attempt, it can permanently disable the dongle, rendering the original software unusable. Security Complexity
They utilize advanced encryption, secure algorithms, and unique identifiers to prevent simple copying. What is Sentinel Dongle Cloning?

Clear your Explorer thumbnail cache (see above) or copy the file to a different location.
This is a bug in Windows 10 that also affects other thumbnails – for example transparent PNG images here and here.
I can’t do anything in my program to work around it, I’m afraid. Please use the Windows 10 feedback function to report this to Microsoft. If enough users do it, they may eventually fix it. Windows 7 does not have this bug.
